The Annual Picnic
Written by Administrator

Each year since the group was founded, members meet for a picnic at the edge of the park, close to Cumberland Avenue. This is an opportunity for members to meet up, share some food and drink and enjoy the spot.

In 2006, the first picnic was held and everybody brought along some food to share. Sunny skies and football playing for children while the grown ups enjoyed the free beer provided for everybody by Michael Parkes Surveyors.

In 2007, it was quite changeable weather. Keith Gulvin, a member of the group who works in Fort Amherst, provided the group with a historic tour showing us details of the walls and historic remains onsite. Keith’s little booklet can be downloaded from this site. (add link when I get it) A brief storm meant sheltering under the trees! For children, (and wine makers) blackberry picking was the order of the day.

In 2008, 20 members of all ages showed up and Paul Clark MP, and enjoyed some refreshments and drinks provided as part of the funding received from Chatham World Heritage.
