On 4 April 2008 Friends of the Admiral's Gardens, pupils and staff from Skinner Street Primary School and New Brompton College joined MP Paul Clark, and representatives from Mid Kent College and Kier Build at a burial ceremony of a time capsule.

"The old town crest of Gillingham exists in many places across the town. In 2008 it was the inspiration for students from Mid-Kent College, New Brompton College and Skinner Street Primary school to make their own crests and shields. The results of the project have been recorded in a book- produced especially for the time capsule buried at the site of the new Mid-Kent College campus in Prince Arthur Road, Gillingham.

Mid-Kent College commissioned local artist Tina Lawlor-Mottram (Serpentina) to lead the project. Under her guidance, students of all ages ceated their own crests for Gillingham, substituting their favourite memories, buildings and parts of the town into the squares marked out by the red gross of St. George. The beautiful crests and shields illustrate what students ike about the town, creating a unique, historical document for future generations.
